Visions of space and alien worlds abound on Nonlin, Steve Hauschildt's latest collection of synthesized songs. Panoramas of galaxies beyond the naked eye drift by, with stars blinking in and out of existence, appearing as sounds that seem to tear through the fabric, but instead find a balance of chaos and calm.

Nonlin is highly emotive, taking the listener on a journey through worlds that are both distant and familiar, as if no matter how far you stray from home, there will be something to guide you. Energy ebbs and flows as space contracts and expands on tracks such as "Subtractive Skies," a driving seven-minute piece that starts among the stars before heading to land, only to ultimately re-join the drift once again. Others, like "A Planet Left Behind," seem to sway the entire time, like deep breaths, the air expanding as time goes on.

All in all, the compositions on Nonlin provide depth and passion enough to show the listener more of the journey each time. They create a unique world through which Hauschildt guides the listener with a sense of gentleness and wonder, like a helping hand showing the way in the darkness. (Ghostly International)
